The Born is a reasonably comfortable electric car. It does a good job of absorbing lumps and bumps in the road. The ride height has been lowered slightly compared with the VW ID 3, so it’s a little firmer but the difference is minimal. It’s still more settled than an MG4, for example. Volkswagen ID3 The Volkswagen ID3 is mechanically similar to the Born but sports a more understated design. It offers decent range and quick charging speeds, as well as similar levels of practicality to the Cupra.

Our opinion on the Cupra Born The Cupra Born skillfully balances fun handling with comfort and refinement. Even the extra sporty VZ model can be a quiet, comfortable, spacious and easy-to-drive family EV from nine to five, but then good fun to hustle along a twisty B-road when you want to let your hair down. Not only was the Cupra R better styled, toned and girded for the job, but it was also much cheaper than the VW despite sharing the parts platform. It was also very fast – its 221bhp good for 6.

The Cupra Born is a great choice for an electric family hatchback – it’s sensible and practical, and goes a long way on a charge, but it’s also a bit more fun to drive and more exciting to look at than the alternatives. It does frustrate with some awkward interior tech, though. Buying this car brand new gets you a six-year warranty, whereas the Cupra will only have three of its five years of coverage left. It’s also really well-equipped, better for rear passengers and decent to drive. If you’re after a great-value electric hatchback, I can recommend the BYD Dolphin.
