Who makes Fisker Ocean cars?

Henrik Fisker is Danish, and the design and engineering team comes from all over the world. The Ocean is, however, built in Graz, Austria, under contract by Magna Steyr, the same company that builds the Jaguar i-Pace, Mercedes-Benz G-wagon, and other high-end vehicles. But cracks started showing in that vision almost as soon as the Ocean hit the road in 2023. Fisker cut production targets multiple times, failed to meet sales goals and laid off staff. What’s more, its Ocean SUV was beset with software and mechanical issues, rendering it inoperable for some. The Fisker Ocean is a discontinued battery electric mid-size crossover SUV that was manufactured and marketed by Fisker, which filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2024.

What’s so bad about the Fisker Ocean?

The Ocean has been bedeviled by software bugs from the day it went on sale, and our long-term car was no exception. Every Fisker Ocean we’ve ever driven has had software bugs. It was forgivable on the prototypes, but continued bugs marred the launch and continued to plague the car throughout its short production run. So far, our Ocean has been very reliable. It’s never failed to start or drive and never locked us out or left us stranded. Yeah, it’s got a few software quirks, but nothing that prevents us from just driving the car. Based solely on personal experience, there’s no reason to doubt it.
