Has anyone made an electric DeLorean?
The electric DeLorean conversion kit is an exceptional meld of motor and machine. The kit has been designed to retain the same overall weight and the same weight distribution as the original car, but with more than twice the power and torque it gains the sports car performance that its looks demand. After some frame adjustments and the addition of custom engine mounts, the DeLorean is home to a rear-mounted 4. V8 that pumps out 453 horsepower and 358 pound-feet of torque. That’s 323 more horses than the factory original, so the DeLorean understandably needed some reinforcements to handle the extra power.
Is the DeLorean electric now?
There is still a DeLorean Motor Co. Humble, Texas, which supplies parts and occasionally builds new cars for DeLorean lovers, and it has now announced a new version — a DeLorean powered entirely by electricity. The DeLorean Motor Company, itself a daring gamble, shut down by 1982 after building only around 9,000 units. Production delays, weak engine performance, poor sales and a scandal surrounding its founder, John DeLorean, all played a role.
