Does ChargePoint do fast charging?
EVs have onboard chargers inside the car that convert AC power to DC for the battery. DC fast chargers convert AC power to DC within the charging station and deliver DC power directly to the battery, which is why they charge faster. Our ChargePoint Express and Express Plus stations provide DC fast charging. Standard chargers are around 5 watts, while fast chargers can range from 18 to 20 watts or higher, especially for newer smartphones that support fast charging technologies.A rapid charger is rated at 50kw and can zap your battery with 80% charge in just 40 minutes, but homes cannot facilitate a rapid charger due to the amount of power they require. The vast majority of EV Rapid Chargers are located at service stations, rest stops and other public locations.Ranging from 7 to 22kW, fast chargers are found at destinations such as train stations, or leisure centres, where you are likely be parked for several hours. W are most common and can add up to 30 miles of range in an hour.Fast charging is usually in the 15 to 25-watt range. Super fast charging starts at 25 watts and goes up to 45 watts or more. This extra power means more speed. Super fast charging is about 30% to 40% faster than regular fast charging.
How long does it take to charge at ChargePoint?
DC fast charging can deliver 100 RPH or more, charging some EVs to 80 percent in 20-30 minutes. DC fast charging stations have various power levels. In general, higher power levels charge EVs faster. Charge to 80% for daily use: Maintaining an 80% charge preserves battery longevity, reduces voltage stress, and provides sufficient range for most commutes. Use 90% or 100% selectively: Charge to 90% for longer trips and 100% only when necessary, completing the drive soon after to avoid prolonged high-voltage exposure. In short, fast charging (between 7kW to 22kW) doesn’t negatively impact EV battery life, but regular rapid charging does somewhat. It’s best to priorities fast charging for your everyday needs and save rapid charging for when it’s really needed. Most drivers will find that charging to 80% or 90% meets their everyday needs and helps maintain EV battery health. Choose the charging level that best fits your driving habits and needs, while considering the trade-offs between range and battery longevity. There are currently three charging options available to EV drivers: Levels 1, 2, and 3 (also called DC Fast Charging). If you drive with any regularity, you could end up using all three at some point.

Superchargers are DC fast chargers that charge at up to 250 kilowatt-hours, while most ChargePoint stations are of a lower level of EV charging. You’ll often find Level 2 ChargePoint sites, which will only provide you with up to 50 miles of additional range for an hour of charging.
