Is it worth buying a BYD?
If you haven’t heard of BYD before, don’t worry – it’s pretty new to the UK and many consider it to be a challenger brand. That means high-quality cars that are great value for money, and often undercut traditional rivals. The cars are stylish to look at, but they’re also built to a high quality and feel solid. Scale, low-cost talent, and in-house manufacturing account for most of BYD’s cost gap with Tesla. Everyone thinks they know why Chinese electric vehicles are so cheap, and almost everyone is wrong.BYD’s ability to produce cars efficiently (read: cheaply) and at scale is obviously a gigantic commercial advantage for the carmaker, but it also delivers consumer benefits in the form of greater affordability.Scale, low-cost talent, and in-house manufacturing account for most of BYD’s cost gap with Tesla.
Is BYD as good as Tesla?
BYD’s wider model range means it’s active in sections of the market that Tesla doesn’t have an answer for. Its models feel new and different, its interior quality is pretty good and the ownership experience is a little more traditional. BYDs are also typically slightly more comfortable and have a longer warranty. With an in-house battery build, similar costs, and strong interior build quality, it brings mainstream affordability to electric mobility. Cars like the BYD Seal and Atto 3 offer best-in-class range, advanced safety features, and feature-packed interiors at a fraction of the cost of similar Teslas.
