What happened with Aptera?
Founded as Aptera Motors Inc. A second company named Aptera USA owned by Zhejiang Jonway Group was launched in 2012 but appeared to cease operations by 2014 and produced no vehicles by 2019. The first Aptera was launched in 2006, went away in 2011, there was an interim company that lasted about a year, then Aptera was re-founded in 2019, and here we are.

Aptera Motors is headquartered in Carlsbad, California, where our team is striving to deliver the most efficient solar electric vehicles in the world. Our 77,000-square-foot facility in Carlsbad, CA, USA, will produce up to 20,000 Aptera vehicles per year, with one vehicle rolling off the line every 12 minutes. Solar panels power the facility, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability and minimizing our carbon footprint.
